Notes from Samara, the piece’s artist: “‘Did you say something?’ is a series of paintings depicting a set of hands in a realistic style yet distorted using various methods to evoke different specific emotions. It touches a little bit on feelings like anxiety, brain fog, depersonalization, and a general disconnectedness from reality. Essentially, it tries to make sense of the interrelations between dreams, delirium, and the world around us.”

Notes from Suha, our art editor:”‘Did you say something’ effectively captures the disorienting, transient quality of dreams and the distortion of perception associated with delirium. The gradual blurring of the hands within the piece shows technical skill, as well as symbolizes greater themes related to the loss of control. This piece allows us to really explore how consciousness may shift in liminal states.”
